About

A Sydney practice since 1974.

Tsia Partners is a Sydney chartered accounting and tax practice working with individuals and businesses across Australia. We handle the annual compliance work and advise on the decisions around it. We have kept the practice small so a principal stays responsible for your work.

Many clients have been with us for decades, through business sales, family changes and the occasional ATO review.

Our history

The practice began in 1974 as L K Tsia Chartered Accountants, founded by Loi Kah Tsia. Tsia Partners was formed in 2019 to continue that work, led by Jia Hao Tsia.

Founder

Loi Kah Tsia

Known to clients as Tom
BComm, FCA, FCPA — Tax Agent and Registered Auditor

Tom was born in Sandakan, Sabah, in 1947. He grew up in Malaysia and came to Australia on his own to study. After qualifying as a Chartered Accountant he worked in other firms for several years, and in 1974, with the support of his wife, he opened his own practice, L K Tsia Chartered Accountants, in Sydney.

Over more than forty-five years he advised charities, unions and employer associations, manufacturers, family businesses and individuals. Many of those clients are still with the practice today.

He worked to three principles, and Tsia Partners still does:

Client first
Honesty
Responsibility

The firm is now led by Jia Hao Tsia.

The team

A small team who know your file.

Principal
Jia Hao Tsia
BMathFin, BSci(Hons), MPA, CA — Registered Tax Agent and ASIC Agent
Jia is Principal of Tsia Partners, with experience across professional practice and banking services for small, medium-sized, corporate and institutional clients. His career began in banking, where he held positions on credit and transfer pricing committees and headed credit and economic reporting for the Australian Banking Division across Asia and Oceania. He moved into tax and accounting to work with clients more directly, as a business partner and consultant rather than at arm’s length.
Accountant
Phillip Kwok
Bachelor of Commerce (Professional Accounting)
Phillip has five years in the profession, working with individuals, small and medium-sized companies and self-managed super funds. He specialises in capital gains tax calculations and rental properties.
Office Administrator
Maya Urabe
Bachelor of Foreign Languages. Cambridge C1 Advanced (CAE). Japanese (native), English (advanced), French (intermediate)
Maya joined Tsia Partners in 2024. She looks after company records and document summaries, and handles bank reconciliations, payables and receivables in Xero. Before moving to Sydney she worked in international sales in Osaka, working in English with distributors in the US, UK, Europe, South America and Thailand, after several years in customer-facing roles in Japan and Ireland.

How we practise

The principles behind how we work.

Advice before compliance
A tax return records decisions already made. We would rather talk to you before the decision, so advice comes first and the compliance work follows.
A price before the work
We quote a fixed fee in writing before we start. If the scope changes, we talk to you and requote before doing more.
Small on purpose
We take on only as many clients as we can look after properly, so the principal on your file knows it well.
Plain answers
We tell you what we think, including when an arrangement won’t work or when the best option this year is to leave things as they are.

How an engagement runs

01
First conversation
A 20-minute call with a principal about your situation, what is outstanding and any decisions coming up. It is usually enough to tell whether we are a good fit.
02
Scope and fixed fee
An engagement letter setting out what is included, what it costs and when it will be done. Work starts once you have signed it.
03
Transfer and access
If you are moving from another accountant, we request clearance and your prior-year records and register as your tax agent. This takes about two weeks.
04
Ongoing work
We track your lodgement dates and contact you when something is due. Quick questions during the year are included in fixed-fee engagements.

Where our clients are

Our office is in the Sydney CBD, with clients across NSW and interstate. We work the same way wherever you are.

We are a small chartered accounting and tax practice in the Sydney CBD. A principal leads every engagement and knows your circumstances.

Most of our clients are within an hour of the office — business owners in the Inner West, professionals on the North Shore and in the Eastern Suburbs, trades and construction businesses through Western Sydney and Parramatta. A growing number are regional or interstate, and we work with them by phone, email and video.

Sydney CBD & city fringe
Walk-in distance from the office. Professional firms, agencies, medical suites and investors. Most CBD clients come in twice a year and handle everything else by email.
Inner West
Newtown through to Burwood. Owner-operated businesses, hospitality venues, property investors and a large share of our trust work.
North Shore & Northern Beaches
Chatswood, North Sydney, Manly. Consultants, medical and allied health practices, SMSFs and family groups holding property.
Parramatta & Western Sydney
Construction, trades, wholesale and transport. Payroll-heavy businesses where the payroll tax and contractor questions matter most.
Eastern Suburbs & South
Bondi to Sutherland. Investors, professionals and small practices, plus family groups planning a sale or succession.
Regional NSW & interstate
Newcastle, the Hunter, Wollongong, the Central West and the Riverina, and clients in every other state. We work by video, phone and secure document transfer, with no extra charge for distance.
